🌳The Credo of Brian🐐

Inspired by a post a peer made in my peer support group, I decided to make a list that details my thoughts, desires, and actions. This credo represents both the essence of who I am as a person now but also the person I’m transforming into.

My hope is that I can come back here later to see how well I align with my values – or see if my values changed entirely!

Beliefs

  • I believe there is good in this world and it is worth fighting for.
  • I believe there is whimsy and mystery in the mundane that’s worth discovering.
  • I believe in enjoying small gestures of kindness and simple pleasures.
  • I believe people deserve love, respect, and understanding.
  • I believe in bodily autonomy.
  • I believe human diversity should be celebrated as a source of strength and pride.
  • I believe an act of kindness is always worth doing in and of itself.
  • I believe people are more than their social status; their value supercedes what a capitalist society dictates.
  • I believe it’s healthy to idealize myself so I can grow into the best version of myself.
  • I believe art and culture should be celebrated and treasured.

Actions

  • My curiosity is a strength that allows me to be a knowledgeable and compassionate person.
  • My kind words and actions allow me to share my love with others so that they may be more willing and able to do the same.
  • I put my heart into the things I do as a source of pride.
  • I leave places clean to show respect and to inspire others to do the same.

Desires

  • I desire for the world to accept marginalized, disabled, and neurodivergent people and to treat them with respect and love by listening to their needs and accommodating them earnestly.
  • I desire that people respect the environment and take care of it.
  • I desire for the end of human and animal exploitation.

Aims

  • I aim to be a positive and uplifting source of energy in all aspects of my life.
  • I aim to understand and improve my mental health honestly, and to impart my wisdom onto others when I’m asked to do so.
  • I aim to support my peers and loved ones using my own individual strengths and experiences.
  • I aim to learn from others’ experiences and take their opinions and differences to heart.
  • I aim to use my knowledge and expertise in technology and science to make the world a better place.
